[Catch-Up] 'Year One' Trailer is Pre-Hysterical

Yeah it's a pun, big whoop, wanna fight about it? Last weekend the theatrical trailer for Harold Ramis' prehistoric comedy Year One was seen with the release of I Love You, Man and what a surprise it's also on the internet.

If the Super Bowl teaser spot wasn't enough of an indicator of just how hilarious this comedy will be, then this trailer should do it for you. I've always loved the comedic take on historical times when they just have characters use contemporary speech. Jack Black and Michael Cera set out on what is being called "the very first road trip," where they are sure to encounter many nefarious characters and shenanigans abound. In the trailer, another glimpse of Cain (David Cross) and Abel (Paul Rudd) is seen (though not as hefty as the clip that was released back in January), and we also are introduced to the love interests for Cera and Black's characters, Juno Temple and Olivia Wilde respectively.

Hopefully, the movie doesn't disappoint and blow hard like the first poster released for Year One. A terribly photoshopped, Superbad rip off that looks like it's the cover for a straight-to-DVD feature, or a movie that Jack Black and Michael Cera did before they had real careers. Check out the hilarious trailer below.

'Arrested Development' Movie is Go for Launch, Seriously

No Michael Cera didn'tpull a Lindsay Lohan. But he did however, make an Arrested Development movie a bit more realistic. According to Kristin Dos Santos over at E! Online, sources close to the negotiations of said TV-to-film venture said that longtime hold out Michael Cera has agreed to reprise his character George-Michael Bluth for the big screen. His holdout hasn't been one of holding himself in high-esteem and not looking back at his career, but rather of caution in his thriving career (especially after warming teenage girls hearts in Juno).

This comes after a great bit of news from executive producer (as well as the show's narrator) Ron Howard that he let out to Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet at the Oscars this past weekend. Howard said, "It's looking very much like we're going to make [the movie], but we've now been asked to stop offering any details. It's cloaked in a little mystery, but it's looking good."

I'm usually not too keen on any television shows making their way to the big screen. Some concepts work better on television than they do on screen, so when I hear about a Lost movie or anything like that I don't feel any excitement. However, this is one show that never got the time or respect it deserved on air, and with such a great cast and amazing writing, this is sure to impress.

In the Beginning There Was the Trailer for 'Year One'

Today shall go down as Super Bowl TV spot Saturday. Earlier we had a look at some prehistoric family entertainment with the Super Bowl spot for Land of the Lost. Here we are with the first glimpse at this year's other prehistoric comedy, Year One. The spot doesn't function so much as a trailer, but rather an extended clip introducing us into Jack Black and Michael Cera's characters and well as introducing us to Paul Rudd and David Cross as the biblical brother duo Cain and Abel. Written by Egon Spengler himself Harold Ramis (also directing), as well as writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupinsky (from NBC's The Office) the film is very reminiscent of Monty Python and the Holy Grail with its tongue-in-cheek presentation of events in pre-history and the Bible. This one looks like a lot of fun, and similar to Monty Python, will probably function more like a series of sketches connected by Cera and Black's journeying through the year one and meeting curious characters along the way.

Helping Michael Cera

Okay, I've always been a fan of Michael Cera. Ever since Arrested Development premiered he's been one of my top five favorite tall awkward teen actors. Superbad, Juno, his guest stint (alongside Arrested Development co-star Alia Shawkat) in Veronica Mars. I even saw Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. For him. Even though back in September he said this:

“I don’t think I would want to see a movie of [Arrested Development] if I was a fan, anyway… and I don’t really see a need for it if you can get the three seasons on DVD.”
Okay. So that hurt. But, the part that always got to me was how untrue and out of touch the comment seemed. The fans want it, his co-stars want it, even the show's creator Mitch Hurwitz wants it in a big bad way. Sadly it would seem that the only one on the planet who's not interested in a movie is Michael Cera.

Now I'm not mad at Cera, I understand is concern. I think someone needs to sit and down and show him some of the excellent movies that have been based on TV shows. Luckily, I've done the legwork. Check out a small guide to making Michael Cera understand after the jump.

1. Serenity:

Based On: Firefly.
Tell Cera: The Arrested Devlopment movie could have less of a bodycount.

2. A Goofy Movie:

Based On: Goof Troop.
Tell Cera: There wouldn't have to be any songs.

3. Reno 911: Miami:

Based On: Reno 911
Tell Cera: Show translated oddly well to the screen.

These are just a handful of examples. There are tons more to be learned from. I have faith in Hurwitz and the cast. If Goofy can do it, so can Cera.
